Different types of yoga, some more advanced than others, but all work toward the same goal. That is, we all try to unify the mind, spirit and body, and to increase strength and flexibility. Asanas or physical postures, it emphasizes that the body is out so, the need for healing, or not flexible enough. The different styles of yoga, however, the focus of the practice of asanas in an individual way.
Two of the most popular styles of yoga used today are Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga. Although Vinyasa yoga is derived from hatha yoga, the classes are very different. One of the characteristics that makes it unique is the rhythm. Another is the way postures are linked together in a series of moves. This produces effects in the body, especially in the cardiovascular system, that hatha yoga is not so.
Hatha Yoga is a gentle, slower pace of yoga, although it can be very challenging physically when it moves in practice thereof. The word Hatha, when divided 'ha' and 'tha' means 'sun' and 'moon'. This style is ideal for those who are new to yoga, and have not yet accumulated experience or confidence. Because it's slower, it's easier for people to learn the principles, postures and breathing methods involved in yoga.
Vinyasa Yoga, by contrast, is a much faster, and more advanced yoga. Instead of simply making each exercises on the mat, with pauses between them, asanas are united in synchronization with the inflow and outflow of air. This produces very dynamic effect, and allows heat to accumulate in the body. An increase in body temperature helps relax the muscles, and people find they can deepen more in a stretch that if the position becomes a more conventional manner.
Both Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga offers a range of health benefits. There is certainly no reason which can not start with the slowest steps of Hatha Yoga, and once more experienced and flexible, go to the practice of the most difficult form of yoga, Vinyasa.
