Types of acne
Acne is a general term used to describe the result of plugged pores on the face, back or chest. Generally characterized by red bumps and whiteheads, acne also includes blackheads and lumps that form beneath the skin.
The following conditions are usually referred to as acne, but each state has particular traits.
Comedo – The condition when a sebaceous follicle plugged with a combination of sebum (released from the gland under the skin), dead cells skin, tiny hairs, dirt, oil, and bacteria. When the comedo is open and exposed to atmospheric oxygen becomes dark in appearance, forming what is commonly called a blackhead. A closed comedo forms a small bump under the skin, and skin takes on a tone or a little white appearance, commonly known as Whitehead.
Papule – A solid small bump slightly elevated above the skin surface. Usually the color of a match papule the skin. Several grouped papules are rough to drive, with a type of sandpaper, I almost feel them.
Pustule – A small fluid-filled bump rises above the surface of the skin and is topped by pus. This bulge is filled with a mixture of white blood cells, bacteria, sebum and dead cells skin.
Nodule – Similar to papule, nodules are solid bumps that rise slightly above the skin. The main difference is that it also develops a nodule in the deep layers of the skin and is a major cause of acne scarring. This type of acne can be very painful and more difficult to treat than other forms.
Cyst – Similar to a pustule, a cyst is a fluid-filled bump that elevates above the skin and is topped by pus. A cyst also is filled with a mixture of white blood cells, bacteria, sebum and dead skin cells and becomes severely inflamed. The cyst forms in the deeper layers of the skin and can be quite painful and is the main cause of acne scaring others. Like acne nodules, a cyst may be difficult to treat.
Place Macula – Red or pink on the left after an acne lesion has healed. Depending on the severity of the initial injury, the discoloration may last a few days to a few weeks before subsiding.
The problem is that most people lump all these different types of acne in a group, and we call acne. This will not be a problem unless each react differently to various forms of treatment, and what works for one does not necessarily work for everyone.
This is complicated because some people experience more than one form of acne at one point. It is very common to have both an outbreak of pustules, and cystic simultainously outbreak.
Because of these facts on acne, treatment is not always straightforward. Benzoyl peroxide or tea tree oil are usually a safe bet the first time trying to treat acne. Some people never need anything more than that. However, for those of you who have tried to 1, several or many treatments without successful, may be useful in determining the types of acne sufferers, and treating each type as suggested by a dermatologist.
Again, no solution acne 100%. However, knowing the type of acne suffers can help find a treatment that works best for you.
