yoga terms and poses

How many many yoga sessions will I need before I can try advanced poses?

I'd say right now I'm somewhere between beginner and intermediate … My long term goal is to make the Firefly and Scorpion raises. No funny looks alone, but because the scorpion was supposed to give the deepest stretch through the neck and spine. How long will I need to practice yoga before moving to these advanced poses?

I'm no expert, but I think it really matters how often you practice, practice time is now intensive it is, and what you are practicing poses. If you really want to know, ask an instructor for advice on how to work toward the positions, and then you can also request that the time that I think may have to achieve the full pose. I think every position is different for everyone. What could take 6 months to learn to do, could someone over two years, as all bodies are aligned differently, have different needs and abilities vary so widely. Someone can have an alignment problem did not realize they had, and have to work on it for a year or more for proper alignment before they can move into a certain pose. I think what we should do is to work smoothly to the pose, and not focus on the target. Focus on where you are now, where will in the future. Yoga is time to focus on the now, so try to practice that not every day. Worry, when, instead, think more toward learning to be in the moment, and learn to listen to what your body needs to be stronger, more flexible and healthy. Namaste ':)
